Whether you’re new to the City, or a born and bred Edinburger, there is always loads to do and see. We’ve put together some of our favourites for you. Keep your eye on it, we’ll change it whenever something new and exciting comes up. If you see anything you like that should be here – give us a shout, we’ll add it to the list so you can share the love.

Edinburgh is made up of several areas – some of which have a great “village” atmosphere and are worth checking out.

Stockbridge

Stockbridge Great for wee independent shops selling all sorts, from clothing boutiques and bespoke jewellery to artisan “foodie” shops and cafes. There’s also a great Farmers market on a Sunday.

Leith (“The Shore”)

Leith (“The Shore”) Historically the Port of Edinburgh, Leith is now best known for its range of fantastic restaurants including two Michelin star restaurants The Kitchin and Martin Wisharts. There’s also an abundance of trendy bars and cafes. Go down on a warm sunny day and it’ll be mobbed with people sitting outside basking in the all too rare Scottish sun!

Princess Street and George Street

Princess Street and George Street Wander along these two streets and make a dent in your student loan! Edinburgh is famous for its shopping and you’ll find everything you need, from Primark to Harvey Nichols. There are excellentbars, restaurants and hotels dotted in between for when you need a rest.

The Grassmarket and Canongate

The Grassmarket and Canongate Steeped in Edinburgh’s greatest history, the Old Town attracts visitors from all over the globe. The famous Royal Mile houses some of the oldest buildings in Edinburgh, with the Castle sitting nicely at the top, and Holyrood Palace at the bottom. It houses some of Edinburgh’s oldest and most traditional pubs. A midnight ghost tour is also a must, but not if you scare easy!

Meadows

Meadows One of the largest public parks in the City Centre, and is plonked right between Edinburgh University’s main campus at George Square, and the sought after residential area of Marchmont. In the summer months, it’s filled with folk picnicking, frisbeeing and generally chillaxing. The Meadows Marathon is a non-profit annual charity Marathon, Half Marathon and five km fun run. It takes place annually in The Meadows on the first Sunday in March.

Edinburgh Festivals

Edinburgh FestivalsThere are lots of different festivals running Edinburgh throughout the summer. The main ones are the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. These run throughout the month of August. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the now the largest of all the festivals held in the City, and indeed the largest arts festival in the world. Includes theatre, comedy, music, musicals, dance and children's shows. Never a dull moment and well worth a visit to see the City come alive!
